When we meet someone here in North America, we usually offer them our hand as a sign of the pleasure of meeting them. In Korea, people bow to each other. We sit, we kneel, we stand, we genuflect as a sign of respect and reverence. We genuflect to the Tabernacle because Jesus our Lord is there. We kneel at some parts of the Mass because we are showing reverence and respect for what’s taking place [the bread and wine becoming Jesus’ Body and Blood]. We stand to pray as a community together [Our Father…]. Although it may seem distracting, in fact, the movement is important, and it is the way that together we worship and pray to God. We should try our very best to think about the prayers and parts of the Mass as we do them.
