A huge and amazing question! We say Jesus is God, but we also say He is the Son of God. The answer to this question is not something which is easy at all to explain, in fact, it really can’t be explained – because God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit and revealed and known in the world in these ways. The special and unique way Jesus came into the world [born to Mary in Bethlehem, growing up with wisdom and knowledge, the special mission, all the things which He taught and did] Jesus was born a human being in a human way, but He was still God and from God. He never stopped being God, but was fully human and fully God. Confusing, huh? He is the Son because of the mission of Jesus which was to be God coming into the world and raising humanity [all of us] and redeeming us.
We’re never going to have the complete understanding of this, but the more we get to know, believe, have faith, trust Jesus – the more this makes sense. It makes sense to me, because I know that at Mass by my hands and Jesus’ Godly authority my voice, my hands and our prayers make Jesus fully and completely present, Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity.
