As a young person, yeah, you’re probably told to come to church because your families and teachers want to instil or help you by forming good habits. It’s important to come to church because when we are growing and learning in our faith, we don’t do it alone. None of us do. Jesus prayed on His own, but He also came together with others. We come to Church to receive the Word [to come to know our faith and how we live through Scriptures] and the Eucharist [Christ’s action of love, given to strengthen us physically and with grace].
Our Christian faith is all about a relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Just as to stay connected with family and friends, we have to spend regular time with them, so too do we have to spend regular time coming together with others who support us and spend regular time with God. We can do that by ourselves by reading the Bible and praying, but we also have to physically be present – this helps us to fully engage ourselves in our faith.
