A Grade 6 student asks: Does God really have time to listen to our prayers?

Absolutely.  God not only listens to our prayers, but He
answers all of them too.  Maybe not always the way we want, but if we have faith in God and trust in Him, we will see that He gives us what we need.  We also have to remember the Christian life is not one that ends with death.  We were created to be with God forever.  I’m mentioning this now, because some of our prayers are answered in eternity.  As a priest I’ve been with a couple of children, and many people who were dying.  My faith is so often made stronger by them.  Even though we might struggle to understand why God might not stop kids from dying, I know from these kids that their faith and the trust they have gives them much more strength than I have, and they are ready, sometimes really excited to see God.  My prayers for greater faith have been answered by being with dying people, and so I have less fear and more courage because of them.  But I never would have
thought that’s how God would answer that prayer.  God listens to our prayers when we gather as believers – but the God of the universe who created human beings in a special
way [we know this because we are unique in that we can think and know God] also wants a personal and loving relationship with us, and so we really have to continue to try hard to remember – when we pray and pray we must; the Lord listens.
